PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Operations will build and maintain control of efficient operations to drive extensive and sustainable growth for the company.
This position will provide oversight and direction for manufacturing personnel and will coordinate with key team members to improve business/operational performance.
This position will promote communication and cooperation amongst all departments within and/or impacting the production facility.
This is a hands-on, results driven role that will be responsible for building and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.
The person hired for this position must prioritize and drive performance improvements that will have a significant impact on business results, as well as delivering operational excellence to customers.

FOCUS:
Understands the current state, designs our future state, and implements a plan creating best in class lean processes on our journey to Operational Excellence.
Challenges the status quo to find ways to optimize Grip-Tite's performance and to deliver superior results.
Overarching responsibilities for this role are:
Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
Activities include the effective utilization of employees; skill development across the organization; production planning and execution; product and process quality, organizational safety, cost control, and problem solving.
Directly responsible for operations budget.
Investigates ways to reduce scrap and out of specification products.
Explores ways to reduce labor hours and effort needed to produce products without sacrificing safety and quality.
Compiles reports including downtime, production counts, product net, waste, and unit costs.
Build a production plan and team that meets all production targets and customer commitments.
Drives implementation of appropriate lean tools, e.
g.
, value stream mapping, standardized work, pull systems, variation reduction, visual controls, and others to maximize productivity and throughput while minimizing lead time and inventory across all aspects of the organization.
Participates in the development of the Lean Roadmap in support of the company's overall strategy and improvement in key performance indicators.
Helps create and establish The Grip-Tite Way and ensures effective implementation across the organization.
Assists in identifying and supporting opportunities of process improvement to enhance profitability and growth.
Identifies relevant continuous improvement training needs and supports the development of continuous improvement training program.
May deliver training.
Benchmarks performance across the facilities and industry to identify areas of opportunity.
Manages sensitive matters with a high level of integrity and confidentiality regarding decisions impacting company operations.
SKILLS &
Experience:
Ability to easily manage multiple tasks in a well-organized and highly detailed manner while working in a fast-paced, perpetually evolving, relationship-driven environment.
A minimum of 7 years' effective leadership experience desired.
At least 10 years of proven experience in product manufacturing and distribution for a medium size organization.
Some experience within the 10 years must be in metal fabrication.
Ability to build high performing teams and provide coaching and mentoring to staff and key personnel.
Strong working knowledge in production management, procurement, materials management, and plant financials.
Possesses exceptional attention to detail.
Has strong analytical problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to execute; experience 8D methodologies, identifying root causes through 5 Why, fishbone analysis, CEDAC, etc.
approaches.
Knowledge of and familiarity with a variety of lean tools included but not limited to:
value stream mapping, standardized work, pull systems and kanban, SIPOC, managing for daily improvement, 5S and visual management, 3P/2P, SMED, TPM, kaizen, and six sigma.
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and present data clearly and effectively.
Must be able to read and understand production drawings and routings as well as technical documents and specifications.
Must have a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes.
Ability to speak professionally with internal and external customers at all levels.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills including the ability to promote cooperation between all functional groups within the organization.
Must possess solid judgement and critical thinking skills; not afraid of complex problems.
Self-directed and driven to show measurable success.
Computer skills with basic applications (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
) Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of Lean Tools and systems.
Experience with ERP systems, Acumatica experience a plus.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Engineering required.
Master's Degree and / or Black Belt certification preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be expected to work inside a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to changing temperatures (hot, cold, humid), moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, chemicals, and loud noises.
The noise level in the work environment can be loud; vibration levels are moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching all day with the ability to be mobile throughout required work areas.
The employee may frequently lift and/or move items up to 75 lbs.
